CDP and WWF have published a new version of the Temperature Scoring Methodology

CDP and WWF have recently published the new version of the Temperature Scoring Methodology. The report was first published in 2020 and this update focuses on incorporating the latest climate science, refining specific aspects for fairness and effectiveness, and relevancy.

How does the methodology work?

- Target protocol: Converts individual emissions targets to temperature scores.

- Company protocol: Aggregates these targets into a company-level temperature score.

- Portfolio protocol: Weights company scores across an investment portfolio.

How is the methodology used?

Financial institutions use it to calculate the temperature of a portfolio, while corporates use it for their value chains, aligning Scope 3 emissions with long-term climate goals like 1.5°C. The methodology is currently used in CDP’s Net-Zero Alignment Dataset and the Science Based Targets initiative's framework for financial institutions. Additionally, a number of data providers are also currently using this methodology.
